When the excavation, documentation, protection and restoration work resumed on July 25, 2010, the aim was to establish the necessary infrastructure that would allow long term presence at the site. This is why priority was given to the Teos Archaeological Site Landscaping Project. The project was initiated in 2010 to create an open-air museum that included an excavation house, a warehouse, conservation-restoration workshop, a visitor reception centre, a parking lot, short, medium and long paved excursion routes and pathways, resting spots, signposts, information boards on the ancient city and the local plant (flora) and animal (fauna) diversity.
In addition to the Teos 1st Degree Archaeological Site, the project includes the Sığacık Castle Urban Protection Zone and the Karagöl-Taşdibi marble quarries. After five years of work carried out with the permission, support and coordination of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey, the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums, the Izmir Governor’s Office, the Izmir Provincial Directorate for Culture and Tourism, the Izmir Museum of Archaeology and the 1st Regional Board for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Izmir, only the first phase of the landscaping project was completed in 2015, after which the ancient city of Teos acquired the status of a designated archaeological site. Here, the stages of the first phase will be mentioned to provides some insight into the project.
