Cornice blocks of the entablature from the palaestra of the Polythros Gymnasium (Kadıoğlu, 2021, 261, Figure 117)
The gymnasion, which was probably built during the Hellenistic Period, is located to the northeast of the acropolis but is mostly underground. An inscription found in Teos and dated to the 2nd century BC provides information about the annual fees to be paid to the teachers who teach at the school of the foundation established by Polythros: ‘ In the Gymnasium, both girls and boys took reading, writing and literature lessons from three different teachers who were paid 500-600 drachmas per year. 700 drachmas were paid to the music teacher and 500 drachmas each to the two sports teachers.
