The marble quarries around Teos (today Karagöl and Turgut village) were in the possession of the Roman emperor. They were managed by imperial freedmen who sent the marble blocks to Italy, Africa or other regions. The imperial freedmen are also known from other inscriptions found in Teos. They were organized as an association as shown by this Latin dedication for Venus Pontia. The goddess was responsible for a windless sea and for safe voyage.

To Venus Pontia, the freedmen of the Communis responsible for the Lucullus Quaries, (restored and dedicated the statue) from acrolit (which was damaged) since many years.
